Bhrigu Lake, Manali
Bhrigu Lake is an elevated lake in Kullu district, about 40 kilometres from Manali. The road to the lake passes through enchanting meadows, also called the Bhrigu Lake Meadows. Few tourists know about the beautiful meadows, which can be compared to the high altitude alpine meadows in Switzerland. Walking through the vast meadows amidst the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas, one feels as if one has entered a completely different world. For those who are constantly looking for places to escape city life, traffic and pollution, Lake Bhrigu is just the place.
It takes about 6 hours to reach the enchanting Lake Bhrigu from Gulaba village. The name Bhrigu is derived from the name of Maharishi Bhrigu. A salient feature of the lake is that it never completely freezes over in winter. According to a legend, the lake never completely freezes over because Maharishi Bhrigu meditated near it. Campers can set up camp near Lake Bhrigu and spend some free time with friends and family on a hike to the lake. During most of the tourist season, the sky in the region is clear and blue during the day. The gentle warmth of the sun on a clear day makes the hike a pleasant experience. The night sky is a special treat for campers and night owls.
